Heath Ledger – Best Supporting Actor?

Published by at 4:32 pm under Blog

Heath Ledger as the JokerWell, we knew it would come, but now it’s official – Warner Bros. has begun pushing Heath Ledger‘s performance in The Dark Knight as a contender for Best Supporting Actor at the Academy Awards. I happen to think he deserves the nomination and perhaps even the win. I loved the movie and his performance in it was nothing short of spectacular.

So, now that the dust has settled on his demise and the movie is heading towards DVD, do you think he deserves the Oscar?

At the risk of being killed before dawn, I reckon if he does get nominated or win, it will be to honour his memory rather than his performance.

I loved the movie, he was the best thing in it. But a nomination would only kick the dust up again.

Heath Ledger’s receding hairline deserves more praise for the quality of his performance than his acting ability.

Not to piss on his grave but I prefer Nicholsons performance and he wasnt even nominated.

mmmeh. He was good but I think it would be always be seen as the ‘because he died’ win.

@Maxi That’s possibly true, but the performance was still remarkable and probably deserves the nomination.

@Paddy I loved Nicholson too but they were two different performances and two different movies. I can’t pick a favourite. And Nicholson surely deserved a nomination too. Instead Denzel Washinton got the Best Supporting Actor Oscar for Glory. Brando and Landau missed out that year too.

@Voodoo Possibly true, but should that mean he gets passed over instead?
