Trading Places

Trading PlacesOne of the funniest movies ever made is the eighties hit, Trading Places. It’s on TV at the moment and I can’t help but watch it again. I’ve seen it dozens of times and it never gets old.

Dan Aykroyd plays Louis Wynthorpe, a wealthy market trader, while Eddie Murphy plays Billy Valentine, a down and out bum. As a bet Whythorpes’ employers frame him and turn him into a bum while promoting Valentine to his old position.

I love it. If you’ve never seen it, what’s wrong with you?

    @Claire Go sort yourself out, girl!

    @Bngr I have it on DVD if you want a loan?

    @GreenInk Nope! Both hands were on the keyboard. Sadly, both eyes were on the TV screen. ๐Ÿ˜‰

    @Thrifty It really is! Brilliant ending to it. Very eighties.

    Cant believe Eddie Murphy has gone from making a classic film like this to “Daddy Day Care”

    It’s horrible Darren..too. He was so talented.

    When I rule the world I will ban all Eddie Murphy films produced after 1994 (besides Shrek1 &2).

    Favourite scene: Valentine is being introduced to commodities trading by the two brothers:

    “We are commodities brokers, William. Now, what are commodities? Commodities are agricultural products, like coffee that you had for breakfast, wheat, which is used to make bread, pork bellies, which is used to make bacon, which you might find in a bacon and lettuce and tomato sandwich. ”

    [Valentine looks at camera.]

    Murphy has not been in a good film since.

    @Peter Damn close to mine. Weird Science and Blues Brothers would drop down my list though. I’d probably move Beetlejuice and Heathers into the Top Five.

    @Jo And it never gets old!

    @Rick I saw them as a child. They stirred unusual feelings in me.

    @D2 Oh, I know, I know. It’s so sad!

    @73Man lmao ๐Ÿ˜†

    Ah, just saw this post too – and was just watching Trading Places last night, before even reading this, freaky!
    I actually put up a bit of a protest last night before the DVD was stuck on, because I so detest Eddie Murphy now.

    Yoinked this from IMDB for a giggle:

    Randolph Duke: Money isn’t everything, Mortimer.
    Mortimer Duke: Oh, grow up.
    Randolph Duke: Mother always said you were greedy.
    Mortimer Duke: She meant it as a compliment
