Could This Be The Greatest Gig Ever?

Published by at 12:51 pm under Blog,Music

Okay, I think I’ve made it abundantly clear how much I enjoyed the Tom Waits gig. It was incredible – the greatest concert I’ve ever been to.

But…

On October 14th there is a special gig in aid of Amnesty International in Vicar Street and two of my all time favourite artists are performing together.

It’s Duke Special vs. The Divine Comedy!!! I can’t tell you how excited I am. I have been a Neil Hannon fan for as long as I can remember and Duke is just godlike:

Duke Special, Lottie and Darren

Tickets go on sale on Wednesday 13th and are €29 each. I will be going. Who’s joining me? Let me know and we can all make a night of it.

More info on Duke’s website or on State.ie

One of the best gigs I’ve ever been to was foy vance in belfast with duke coming on as a special guest 1/2 way through foy’s set. A-f**kin-mazing, you’re in for a treat.

Fall Out Boy are great, terrible live though.

Neil Hannon is possibly the best songwriter of the britpop era and I can’t imagine him being bad live either.

Seen Neil Hannon about 4/5 times now – he is brilliant live. So funny and charismatic.

I saw him before there was anyone else in the Divine COmedy, maybe, supporting Kristen Hirsch solo. He was deadly!

I saw him at Oxegen, tiny he is!

Is this a sit down concert or stand up one?

  14. Rickon 12 Aug 2008 at 12:28 pm

    Oh God yes….

    You’re kidding, right?

  15. Maryon 12 Aug 2008 at 12:40 pm

ehmm no, was just asking as to all sit together we’d need to book in the same area.

  16. Darrenon 12 Aug 2008 at 5:19 pm

@B’Dum Amazing live – such an entertainer.

@Mary Sit down – tables actually. Should be a great atmosphere.

    @Rick Nope! Wooooo!

Just catching up in a mammoth number of posts in the Reader and came across this. I am SO excited. Have booked my tickets (delighted and surprised that there were still some left). I was at the Choice awards the night Neil Hannon’s Victory For the Comic Muse beat Duke Special’s Songs from The Deep Forrest and the banter between them was great; this should be a great gig.

@Nathalie Thank you so much for the comment. And for reading at all. 🙂 Maybe we’ll see you at the gig. Where are you sitting? Also, we were at the Choice Awards that night too – brilliant evening.
