This Is Not A Blog Post

Published by at 6:10 pm under Blog

This is not a proper blog post. I’m sitting on the DART, almost home and there’s only one other bloke on the carriage. He’s tapping away on his old ASUS EeePC and I’m feeling mean. So I’ve taken out my updated version of his laptop, the 900 Series, just to show off. Yes, I am a nerd. Yes, I am mean!

Alexia first brought my attention to the EeePC and I immediately wanted it. Not because it would aid in my productivity, not because it would make me more efficient, not even because I needed it for work. It was a pretty gadget and I wanted it.

He looks jealous. My work here is done.

Kudos for the nerd-off (I used to do the same with my N95)

What is the EeePC like to use? (We’re planning a 6 month trip through Asia and it looks perfect for mobility/web and just general nerd gadgetry)

    Tell me more!?

Everyone knows the 900 is inferior to the 701. Everyone.

Beat this nerd-face: I have BOTH a 701 and a 900! I find both useless because Linux is of no use to me and XP is really too bloated. And the battery life on the 900 is woegeous.

The worst bit? I bought them after buying my brilliant Vaio TZ which is only marginally bigger. Total waste. But I refuse to be beaten on gadgets. That gadget place on the quays has the EEE for a fairly nifty price. Didn’t see what version it was though. But if you’re on the market for an EEE 900 take a look at ebay for the HP note for a lot more bang for a little more buck.

I’m too nervous to take out any laptop on public transport though. I’m typing this on the bus on my phone.

I’m usually the person with the crapper piece of technology, so I’ve to transform it into a battle of who’s the more idiotic with their money.

@David & @ThriftC It’s a great machine. If you use the back end interface rather than the basic linux front it’s much stronger. It’s 20GB memory means you will need a bit of extra storage if you’re using it as more than a simple bridge between work and home. Also, the little keyboard did take a few days to get used to. If your fingers are particularly bulbous, avoid.

@Ray Don’t be recommending anymore machines. I can’t afford to be buying anything else. I went without food this month for my EeePC.

@B’DumX2 I’m a much bigger idiot than you!

@lecraic Damn you. That looks nice, but it’s more than double the price.

For the price of it and on the recommendations I read I think we’ll be getting one before the trip.

    Cheers for coming back Darren.
