We’re Off For A Delightful Weekend

Published by at 8:24 pm under Blog,Music

Woohoo! Well, we’ve got our tickets and we’ll be off to Oxegen. This is my first festival ever, so I’m very excited. Giddy, even!

So, I collected our tickets this evening (thank you again, Sir). That’s all we need, right? Our tickets, yeah? Nothing else?

I mean, obviously we’ll get a tent. And a big load of toilet roll. Obviously! But that’s it yeah?

Spare clothes? Sure, it’s a festival – we can wear the same ones all weekend. Wait! Rain! Okay, so I’ll bring a spare shirt and tie. I’ll pack two pairs of canvas runners, in case one pair get a little damp. Some spare socks maybe? Nah – they take up too much space.

I guess I’ll bring my iPod, just in case there’s no good music for a little while. It’ll be safe enough I’m sure. I’ll just make sure to keep it beside my tent, so I know where it is. Same for my laptop, of course.

But that’s it, right? I don’t need anything else. Should we bring a few bottles of Heineken? I guess they’ll have some good trendy bars and they’ll probably have table service at some of the venues? Do we need to get to each venue early to get a good seat? I’m sure someone will move if I ask them politely.

I just Googled festival and got some wonderful pictures from the Henley Festival which is also running this weekend. I assume it’s something similar.

I’m really looking forward to it and Lottie is going to look beautiful in her ballgown.

But if anyone does have any advice for festival newbies, please leave a comment or two below. Seriously, please help!

Can we go to the Henley Festival instead? It looks just charming.

woah! you’re 26 and this is your first one?!

Be f*cking prepared! Wellies, tent and strong willpower is all you really need.

Some Es wouldn’t go amiss either, not for the typical reasons, but one of the sideaffects would be useful(clue: involves the lavatory facilities).

    Who you going to see?

Excellent, you’ll enjoy thoroughly. One piece of advise:

    Baby wipes ftw

Can’t say enough about them. I’d take Monday off work as well. I was absolutely shattered after getting back last year.

So I see you recovered from your gastroenteritis just in time for your next adventure. My tips would include wellies, combats for all them spare pockets and as Anthony says babywipes rock! Plenty beer and if planning on using the shower facilities perhaps a swimsuit for lottie and you can get out your speedos for the ocassion! Due to Irish weather you should also bring sunscreen. Bring some of your motilliums also and perhaps some imodium just in case! Oh and leave the laptop at home! ๐Ÿ˜‰ Can’t believe you not been to a festival before, even I managed that! Hope you have a fab weekend you two. Hope to see you next weekend! ๐Ÿ˜€

    see you there…

bring the antiseptic gel I have, you can get them in dunnes or tesco for 99cent I think, at least it means you can clean your hands after being to the toilets etc and you don’t have to be going around looking for sinks or whatever, bring baby wipes/face wipes, loads of loo roll and maybe bring a lock or something for your tent when you’re sleeping/away from it?

    Have a fantastic time :-).

I wouldn’t advise a lock on the tent, I hear it alerts people to the fact you’ve something worth robbing in it!

BABY WIPES so essential it’s not even funny
DRY SHAMPOO if you’re worried about skanky hair
(for girls more so than boys I suppose)
MOUTHWASH or maybe those Oral B finger brushy yokies. V handy.

Have fun! Supa jealous, I have to wait till EP in August for my bitta festival fun! ๐Ÿ™‚

I’d lock the tent when you’re away from it but I wouldn’t lock it overnight. Get to know the punters camping around you. The lads who camped beside us were useless at putting up tents so I ended up constructing 3 of theirs.

@Lottie NO! Oxegen is where it’s at, Baby!

@B’dumX2 We have a whole plan worked out of who we’re going to see. Half of it probably won’t happen but there’s a few definites – Delorentos, Republic of Loose, Camille O’Sullivan, REM, The Raconteurs, Bell X1…

@Anto Yeah, everyone is saying Baby Wipes. Weird! Wouldn’t have thought of them.

@Stella Cheers! Still not feeling perfect, but I’m nearly there.

@Mary @ Kitty @ Anto Cheers! Not sure about the lock thing. I think I’ll just avoid bringing valuables with me. If someone nicks my beer, I’ll hunt them down and kill them though.

Jaysus… I’m only 28 and I think I decided I was too old for festivals when I was 21! ๐Ÿ™‚ I think Lottie is on to something! ๐Ÿ™‚

But I am an avid camper… so let’s see!

    Torch/Lantern
Antibacterial hand gel (get the little pocket versions at Tesco to carry around)
    Snacks
    Baby Wipes
Water… lots and lots of water
    Nurofen
    TP
    Towels
    Earplugs
BBQ – why not? You’ll be the most popular campers there! ๐Ÿ™‚

Hit Lidl today… they have a bunch of cheap camping stuff!

    Have fun! ๐Ÿ™‚

Ok, last year was my festival virgin year.

    Things to bring,
    tent
    Sleeping bags
I brought an air mattress (heaven, at the end of the day)
plastic cups (for vodka and minerals for food in the morning)
    Breakfast bars
    Crisps
    Chocolate
    toilet roll
    baby wipes
    boots (essential)
    headache tablets
    Spare clothes (rain maks)
    Bin bags
    Water
CD player of some sorts with music.
    Towels
Drink, but not loads (you cant bring it into the venues, you have to buy from the stalls in there)
    torches
A flag/marker for your tent, it can be hard to find, especially late at night in the dark.
Be prepared to go to some really, really bad toilets.
    pick up some foldable chairs
Don’t bring anything valuable ANYTHING! You’ll be with some real drug users. Sure there will be great people you’ll meet, but drugs are rampant, and you’ll so is wholesale destruction.

I didn’t even lock my tent, and the fuckers slashed it open anyway. So I ‘d add duct tape to the list! That was Feile, thogh, a long time ago – maybe people are nicer now ๐Ÿ™‚

    Have fun!

  13. Lottieon 10 Jul 2008 at 10:35 pm

I think if we just leave a big pile of fake poo outside the tent people will steer well clear.

  14. Darrenon 11 Jul 2008 at 12:29 pm

@Deborah & @D2 Thank you so much for your lists – excellent.

@Jo Fingers crossed we won’t have too many bad experiences. We do have some back up plans though.

@Lottie Does it need to be fake?
