Whatever Limits Us We Call Fate – Emerson

Published by at 8:06 am under Blog

It’s strange. I think I only ever consider the possibility of fate and destiny and a predetermined route when things are going wrong. When I’m ‘down on my luck’, this is when I think that some higher power is fucking with me.

When things are going well, it’s all me. It’s my good decisions, wise actions and forthright, positive thinking that has brought me to this good place. But on those dark days, it’s my bad luck.

When I was younger I imagined there was a Laughing God. I think it’s the only deity I ever really believed in. The Laughing God loved nothing more than to mess with my life, to place me in awkward, difficult, horrible positions, just to watch me squirm. The Laughing God was not a good God.

So, is there fate? Is there a higher power, a puppet master yanking at our strings? I don’t think so. Wouldn’t life be a bit pointless if that were true?

With me whenever lots of great stuff happens or comes my way, something ALWAYS goes wrong, its true. Now I always kinda wait for something bad to happen. If there is some dude yanking at my strings he can piss right off!

Everyone has good times. And everyone has bad times. “Luck” as people call it, is life.

Essentially, sometimes good times are had by all, and then bad shit happens too. I believe that’s what life is.

I don’t believe there is such a thing as luck or fate.
Whatever consequences happen in anyone’s life are based on the decisions that person makes.

You’ll just never know. So maybe it’s best to just keep anticipating the good times, never thinking about what bad shit is gonna keep you down in the dumps next…

We all had those barriers to hurdle in life, events taking place that did not seem fair at all, we all have them, certainly had my share, but here I am, still.. perhaps these tests of our resolve or constitution make us all the stronger. Never forgotten, what we’ve been through, and we will revisit those episodes for sure, but we cannot let them hinder us from the life we have, or can have..

I think the opposite. When things are going great it’s because they are supposed to. Good things happen to good people, everything works out for the best etc etc.

It’s only when the world starts to look down on me that I actually take a step back and realise that it’s nearly always all my own doing.
