Maybe The Students Are Right

Published by at 5:15 pm under Blog

Maybe the students have the right attitude. They arrive en masse and take over Molesworth Street. They beat drums, they scream, they shout, they dance. Then they depart leaving a huge mess in their wake. But where are they going? Where will 10,000 hyped up students go? To the Purty Kitchen, of course –

Recession Session

These flyers are strewn all over the streets.

Let’s turn this Recession into a Session” – Genius!

Every Drink Now €1.99” – More genius!

Awh, I miss being a student… walking around shouting about things and drinking copious amounts of cheap drink… sure I’m still living that life but it’s just not the same without missing lectures!?

As someone who never had the opportunity of a third level education stories like this sadden me.

On one hand there are pensioners trying to eke out a living on a basic pension after a lifetime of labour, while on the other we see posters like this encouraging students to spend money on drink!

Don’t misunderstand me, there is nothing wrong with drink, it is a good think if you can afford it.

By afford, I mean pay for it with EARNED money!

    Wohoo! Session!

    Great marketing plan.

@Ross To this day I still miss avoiding lectures and going to Farrell’s in Dun Laoghaire. Good times…

@GM Good point. I think I’d side with the students, because I do believe they are the future of the country and the economy, but when you see the amount of empty wine bottles and cans of Dutch Gold left on the streets around my office in the aftermath of the protest, it’s very hard to be sympathetic.

    @Lottie That’s what I thought. 🙂

If more people protested like the great unwashed and inebriated masses of students, maybe the country wouldn’t be run by crooks?

If I was a student that drank, I’d be kicking myself for not going to the protest, noticing the flyer and drinking my ass off.

I know the people behind this. I am equally proud and disgusted!

@Sheepie OR maybe it would just be run by a different set of crooks?

@Chris It was the protest to be seen at. All the cool kids were there.

@Ciara I have no doubt that those who organised it, did so with the best intentions and with great conviction. Likewise, the majority of people who were there went along to voice their disagreement with the government. It’s just such a shame that a number of people went along just to have a party and probably have no interest or opinion in what was being said. IT tarnishes the point of the protest slightly. Only slightly.

Whose money do you think they were spending, yours? I dont remember many people in college getting grants. Maybe there spending there parents money but at those prices who would blame them!

@Darren: Yes, but I think the cooler kids were out playing Airsoft, as it was the first trip of the year, which had been planned for weeks 😉
